Inspiration from the Madrid lifestyle

The first thing you should know is that the design of our prints is inspired by the covers of THE NEW YORKER magazine, which became famous for the quality of its contributors, both journalists and illustrators, and its content on social life and lifestyle in the Big Apple. The “charm” of this magazine elevated the city of New York to the status of an icon.

THE MADRILEÑER, like other sister projects in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, and many more, pays homage to the lifestyle of its city, which has nothing to envy of the most important capitals of the world. Madrid, with its idiosyncrasy, its untold stories, its restaurants open at unthinkable hours, the way it welcomes foreigners, deserves to be recognized.

Art that connects and excites

Our catalogue is constantly evolving. Each release follows a carefully designed schedule to cover different artistic styles, iconic locations and stories worth highlighting.

We select and contact artists we admire. We talk to them about our project and explore their connection to Madrid. We ask them the big question: What is Madrid for you?

Once we agree on the details of the collaboration, the Madrileñer artists create works that reflect their personal history with Madrid.

Just like designing a book cover, the artist uses his technique to capture in an image his personal history with Madrid, something that means or meant something during his daily life in the city. That is why the date of each copy of THE MADRILEÑER has a date, which can be very recent or very old but is not chronological: it is part of the graphic narrative , just like the fictitious price that can be seen in the opposite corner.

In this way, when we see you at an opening or festival, we can tell you each of the stories that inspired the creation of each work. Excentriciudad , for example, represents Daniel Montero Galán 's Sunday walk with his young son to the park next to his house, Madrid Río; Terraceo is the longing for the vermouth moment, so anonymous but so accompanied, by María Simavilla or La Latina en calma is a street invented from the perspective of an architect in love with the neighborhood where he goes every night, to have a beer with his girlfriend, watch people go by and talk about life.

Each one, from the most abstract to the most figurative, enriches the corner you take it to, with its far-reaching details, its color or the ability to liven up any evening, while you explain why this story has to do with you and the meaning of each element.

Quality and exclusivity

As expected, out of respect for the artist who makes it and the one who acquires it, each THE MADRILEÑER piece is part of a limited edition of 250 units , numbered and with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artists.

The quality we have chosen to enhance the quality of the colours is achieved with a Giclée print , which mixes 12 inks, on a cotton support developed by a traditional manufacturer, respectful of the environment and recognised for the rigour of its processes, Hähnemuhle papers.
