FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Madrileñer?

The Madrileñer is a collection of illustrated art prints that celebrate Madrid. Each print is created by contemporary Madrid-based artists. They are limited, numbered editions and are designed to decorate homes with art that tells real stories about the city. They are not generic posters, but certified pieces of art.

Do you have a physical store?

We enjoy the flexibility and exclusivity that online sales and word-of-mouth provide us. However, we love meeting passionate Madrileños and showing them the works live, so you'll find us at the city's most curious art markets and the world's most exclusive concept stores.

We can't wait to meet you.

Who makes the illustrations?

Each artwork is made by a different artist, but all share a love for Madrid and are storytellers. Many have editorial illustration experience and have even published their own books. Learn more about each artist's background in the artwork description on the shop page or on our blog here: The artists behind the prints.

What presentations / sizes do you have?

We sell in 3 convenient sizes: 30x40cm, 40x50cm, and 50x70cm. All fit standard frames found in big box stores. If you are looking for an exceptional size, do not hesitate to contact us.

We also offer handmade frames to make installation at home easier for you. Receive your framed prints directly from the artisan framing workshop we have selected for you.

How many copies are produced of each print?

Each design is limited to 250 numbered copies. After reaching 250 copies, that design is not reissued. This guarantees that your print is exclusive and has collectible value.

Is each print numbered?

Yes. Each print has a unique printed number (example: 87 of 250). Your serial number is part of the authenticity of the piece and includes a certificate of authenticity.

What makes a The Madrileñer print special compared to a normal poster?

There are several differences. Our prints use 200-gram paper (vs. 150g in standard posters). The ink is light-resistant (does not fade). They come numbered in a limited edition of 250 copies. Each print supports a real contemporary artist. And they last for decades without losing color, while a cheap poster disappears in 2-3 years.

What are the prints made of?

High-quality 200-gram paper printed with light-resistant ink using the giclée printing technique. The paper is Hahnemühle, the museum standard. They do not fade or wrinkle. The paper resists humidity changes without curling.

What is Giclée printing?

It is a printing process that uses acid-free paper and high-quality pigment-based archival inks to ensure that prints never degrade, fade, or turn yellow over time.

How should I care for my Giclée?

Until you can frame your Giclée, treat your prints as you would any work of art. Be careful not to scratch the printed area and avoid moisture or oils on your fingers, as they can show up on the print.

Do the prints fade over time?

No. The ink is formulated to be light-resistant for decades. Even exposed to direct sunlight, it maintains its original color. A Madrileñer print will last a lifetime without losing color.

Can I use these prints in humid rooms (bathroom, kitchen)?

Yes. The 200-gram paper and light-resistant ink also resist humidity. You can hang a Madrileñer print in a kitchen, bathroom, or any space without worrying about moisture damage.

Why don't your works cost €5.95 / 599 pesetas?

The price of €5.95 or 599 pesetas you see in the upper left corner of our prints is a nod to the magazine cover format, but it is symbolic. 😉

Our prices are calculated to offer fair compensation to artists and cover the costs of fine art printing (with 12 inks and on museum-quality *Hahnemühle* paper), which can maintain their quality and color vibrancy for up to 100 years.

Will my art print match what I see on my screen?

We try to represent our art prints as accurately as possible visually. There may be slight variations in colors due to differences in lighting and monitors. In general, our customers confirm that the colors are much more vibrant than on screen.

Can I share my prints on social media?

YES! Share your images on social media and tag us on Instagram @be_themadrilener.

What is the return policy?

Free returns within 30 days. If you don't love your print once you receive it, you can return it no questions asked and we will refund your money in full. There is no return cost.

What if my print arrives damaged?

Contact our team with a photo of the damage. We will send you a new print at no cost. You do not have to return the damaged one.

What does "numbered out of 250" mean?

Each print is produced in a limited quantity (maximum 250 copies per design). Your print has a unique number (example: 87 of 250) printed on the bottom right. This certifies that your copy is authentic, part of a limited edition, and collectible. When the 250 copies are sold out, that design is not reissued. This gives it exclusive value.

Can I frame the print myself without a frame?

Absolutely. You can use any standard 30x40 cm, 40x50 cm, or 50x70 cm frame available in art stores. Or make it more modern by sticking it directly to the wall with reusable adhesive tape. There are also poster hangers (minimalist aluminum frames) that give a very clean result.

Can I buy multiple prints to create a gallery wall?

Of course. Many clients create galleries of 3 to 5 prints. We recommend choosing pieces that share a similar color palette or using consistent frames. If you need advice on what combination works, contact our team.

Are these posters or original art?

Technically, they are printed sheets (not unique original paintings). But they are much more than posters. Each design is created by a contemporary artist. They are printed in a limited quantity (250 copies) with professional quality ink and paper. They come numbered and certified. It is art reproduced deliberately and carefully. It is not a mass-produced poster.

How do I contact The Madrileñer team?
