An illustrated journey between Retro and Rock'n'Roll

Adrià Ferrer Marquès , known artistically as El Marquès , is a young illustrator born in Malgrat de Mar, Barcelona, in 1988, and currently residing in the city of Barcelona. His artistic career did not begin in the world of illustration, but in music, where he was part of the band The Penny Cocks . As a vocalist, he tore his vocal cords while, in parallel, he began to create album covers for bands. This is how his passion for graphic design arose, which led him to become one of the most recognized illustrators on the current creative scene.

El Marquès' style is unmistakable. His work is strongly influenced by mid-century poster art, and his printing techniques, such as risography and silkscreen, give his creations a unique touch. In addition, the elegance of jazz covers and a mix of elements from the Belle Époque and Art Deco add depth and nostalgia to his work. However, his work is not stuck in the past: a beatnik and pop art touch merges with the rebellious spirit of Rock'n'Roll, giving it a modern and vibrant character.

Throughout his career, El Marquès has worked for a wide range of prestigious clients. From major brands such as Danone, Springfield, Campari, and Codorniu, to renowned cultural institutions such as the Generalitat de Catalunya and La Pedrera-Casa Milà. His talent has also been sought after by publishers such as Penguin Random House and Editorial Planeta, and he has left his mark on the music industry by collaborating with labels such as New West Records and Bcore Disc.

In addition to his work in advertising and editorial publications, El Marquès has explored other creative fields. He has produced historical illustrations for museums and continues to combine his personal projects with commercial commissions. His versatility and creativity make his work a benchmark in contemporary graphic art, and his retro flavour, combined with the freshness of his compositions, makes him an artist who never ceases to surprise.

El Marquès is a creator who knows how to capture the essence of the past and reinterpret it for the present, with an aesthetic that is as nostalgic as it is innovative.
